We start the conversation with Jay's introduction to the University of Iowa and Coach Hayden Fry, how he was destined to be a Hawkeye from the get-go being familiar with the football and wrestling programs. After signing as an undrafted free agent with the Bears in 1981, Jay describes how the team dynamic shifted with the introduction to Mike Ditka and his drive to win at all costs within the organization. He describes the last years of Papa Bear George Halas and some stories he shared with the team. Afteer being signed to the Bears, Hilgenberg describes his relationship with locker buddy Walter Payton, quarterback Jim McMahon and his offensive line coach Dick Stanfel. Jay touches on Super Bowl XX, how it was the easiest game he has played in, and how he did NOT want the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl. Jay also makes a modern-day comparison to Walter Payton that'll have Bears fans begging for next season.
