Dan details the beginnings of his journey to professional sports, talking about his internship with the Chicago Cubs and how he was invited to work at the New York Yankees Spring Training. After being hired full-time, Dan talks about the difficulties in ascending the ranks of a professional organization, who George Steinbrenner was as a man and as an owner and what seperated the Yankees from the other organizations. He touches on what kept him engaged with baseball, what led to his departure from the sport to work at the NCAA and how he carried skills over. Serving as NCAA Associate Director for Enforcement, Dan was faced with many unique challenges during his tenure that he parlayed into working and instructing at the University of Iowa today.
